Retreat Estrela Serenity

7-Day Maha Satsang Retreat with Av Neryah

5-12 July 2026 • Estrela Serenity Wellness Resort • Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Portugal
Estrela Serenity – Resort, Caminho das Regadas Nº 1, 6290-081 Folgosinho – Portugal

      Retreat Description

A Maha Satsang is a Great Gathering in Truth. For those who feel called to dive deeply into the heart of reality, this retreat offers an unprecedented opportunity: seven days in uninterrupted satsang with Av Neryah.

Over these seven days, you will be immersed in an intense and intimate living field where guided transmissions, spiritual discourses, laser-like inquiry, spontaneous pointers, truth dialogues, meditative walks, fierce love and shared silence all come together in a field of nondual grace and uncompromising presence, serving one purpose: the awakening and embodiment of true freedom.

And all of this unfolds in the raw beauty of the Serra da Estrela mountains in Portugal, away from your usual noise, so that nature itself becomes part of the transmission.

If you want a safe, respectable upgrade to your spiritual identity, there are many retreats for that. If something in you is done with all of that and simply longs for liberation you are welcome here.

Spaces are very limited, so reserve your place and join us.

      Retreat Venue

Estrela Serenity Wellness Resort is located in the raw splendor of Portugal’s highest mountain range, a land of whispering forests, fresh air, crystal-clear waters, and panoramic views over the Mondego Valley. Nestled amid the stunning landscapes of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, a UNESCO Global Geopark, it offers a rare sense of vastness and stillness.

The resort features dedicated meditation and practice spaces, quiet walking paths in nature, and simple, comfortable rooms, making it an ideal setting for a deep retreat while still feeling held, safe, and human.

Most satsangs will take place in a beautiful dome overlooking the valley and surrounding mountains, close to an idyllic natural lake. It’s a quiet, light-filled space that holds the group well and supports deep self-exploration.

      Arrival & Departure

Check-in: Sunday 5 July 2026, from 4:00 pm local time (UTC+1 / WEST / BST).

Check-in is only available after 4:00 pm on the arrival day. If you arrive a little earlier, you’re welcome to wait in the lounge/communal areas until your room is ready. Please, do not arrive before 2:00 pm.

The retreat officially begins in the early evening, so arriving between 4:00–6:00 pm usually works best to settle in unhurriedly.

Check-out: Sunday 12 July 2026, by 10:00 am.

Although rooms need to be vacated by 10:00 am, the retreat continues with a final satsang from 10:00 am–Noon, followed by lunch from 12:00–1:00 pm.

Luggage can be safely left in a designated room on-site after check-out, so you can be fully present for the closing session and lunch before you travel home.

      What to Bring

In early July, daytime temperatures in these mountains usually peak around 30ºC (86ºF), with evenings cooling to around 22ºC (71ºF). Sunrise is around 6:00 am and sunset around 9:00 pm. It’s best to bring light, comfortable layers you can add or remove as needed.

We suggest packing:

– Practical shoes for walking on uneven ground (paths and outdoor areas are not all flat).

– Flip-flops / sandals and a light robe if you’d like to use the sauna or spa.

– Sunscreen and a hat or cap for the sun.

– Insect repellent, especially if you’re sensitive to bites.

– A light jacket or sweater for the cooler evenings.

You’ll spend most of the retreat in loose, comfortable clothing suitable for sitting, walking and being outdoors. We suggest bringing relaxed clothing you’d feel at ease wearing in a quiet, contemplative space with others.

The satsang dome is climate-controlled (heated/cooled as needed), so the space stays comfortable during sessions, even if the temperature outside changes throughout the day. However, a light sweater or shawl can still be helpful if you tend to feel cold when sitting.

      Meals Information

There will be three healthy vegetarian meals per day, prepared with fresh local ingredients by the venue, with vegan options available at most meals. Water, coffee, tea, and fruits will also be available at all times.

If you have any other dietary requirements, please contact us before booking to check whether the kitchen can accommodate them. We cannot guarantee that all special diets can be catered for.

      Meal-Time Quietude

Although this is not a silent retreat, meals are an important part of the retreat container and are taken with presence to support integration.

Breakfast – held in silence.

Lunch – held in silence.

Dinner – more flexible: you are welcome to remain in silence or to share simple, conscious conversation, if it feels right.

If you feel called to keep full silence throughout all meals, that choice is fully honored.

The reason for this approach:

Taking meals in silence helps you stay present and in the same depth opened by the sessions, instead of spilling it out in conversation. It protects the shared field from scattering, and gives more sensitive or introverted people a real chance to rest and remain grounded, without the pressure to socialize three times a day.

After dinner, those who feel called to share reflections with others are welcome to do so in the communal areas (indoors or outdoors in nature), while those who prefer silence are equally free to rest on their own. Those who wish to deepen the silence can do so in the satsang dome, out in nature, or simply in their rooms.

1. Who is this retreat for?

This retreat is for anyone who feels drawn to truth, presence and the direct exploration of their nature and nonduality in the presence of Av Neryah. You’re welcome whether you’re quite new to this work or have been walking this path for many years. The only real requirement is a sincere yearning.

2. Do I need prior experience with this kind of work?

No particular level of experience is required. There will be guidance offered throughout, and you are free to engage at your own pace. You can simply sit, listen, feel, rest, and allow grace and the teachings to unfold through you.

If you are completely new and unsure whether a full residential retreat is right for you at this stage, you’re welcome to email us and we can explore it together.

3. Are Single rooms available for everyone?

Single rooms are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If a Single room is important to you, we recommend booking early.

4. Can I buy a ticket for someone else?

Yes, you can buy a ticket for a friend, partner or family member.

If you’re booking for a Double room (one bed, two people):

– You’ll be asked to provide the details of both participants during checkout.

– Please make sure names and emails are correct, as this is what we’ll use for all retreat communication.

If you’re booking a Twin room (two separate beds), but want to stay together, there are two options:

– Each person books their own Twin ticket and you both email us with each other’s names so we can allocate you to the same room, or

– One person books two Twin tickets and provides the full details of the second participant (name and email) during checkout and/or by email, so we can place you together.

5. Can I share a room with a friend or partner?

Yes. You can book a Double room if you’re coming as a couple or close friends who wish to share one bed, or a Twin room if you prefer separate beds. Please add each other’s names when booking and/or email us so we can pair you.

6. What if I don’t know anyone to share with?

You don’t need to have a roommate in mind to come on retreat.

If you’re happy to share, you can book a Twin room just for yourself, and you’ll be paired with another attendee of the same gender. We’ll do our best to make a good match.

If you would prefer not to share a room, you can choose a Single room instead (subject to availability, as Singles are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis).

7. Can I change my room type after booking?

Changes may be possible if we still have availability in the category you’d like to move to. Please email us as soon as you know. Any difference in price will need to be settled, and changes are not guaranteed.

8. When does the retreat start and end?

Check-in: Sunday 5 July 2026, from 4:00 pm local time (UTC+1).

Check-in is only available after 4pm on the arrival day.

Can I arrive late or leave early?

The retreat is intended as a complete journey from the first evening to the final session, and you’ll receive the most from it by attending the full schedule.

On Sunday 5 July, please do not arrive before 2:00 pm, and aim to arrive between 4:00–6:00 pm if possible.

On Sunday 12 July, the retreat ends after lunch at 1:00 pm, and you’ll need to plan your departure from 1:00 pm onwards.

9. Can I use the spa, fitness center and pool during the retreat?

Yes. You’ll have access to the spa, small fitness room and outdoor pool in the breaks between sessions. If you feel drawn to use them, we simply invite you to do so in a way that supports the quiet, contemplative atmosphere of the retreat.

10. What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

There’s no formal dress code. In early July, daytime temperatures in these mountains usually peak around 30ºC (86ºF), with evenings cooling to around 22ºC (71ºF).

You’ll be most comfortable in loose, relaxed clothing suitable for sitting and walking. We suggest bringing clothes you’d feel at ease wearing in a quiet, contemplative space with others.

Please check Travel -> What to bring tab for more practical information.

11. Is there Wi-Fi? What about phones and laptops?

There is Wi-Fi at the venue, and you may need your phone or laptop for travel and essential practical matters.

However, it is best if phones, laptops and tablets are not used during the retreat, except in case of urgent necessity. We invite you to treat these days as a time to step out of your usual online life and to allow a continuous momentum of quiet presence and inner exploration.

Phones, laptops and tablets cannot be brought into the dome or any shared practice or meal areas either. Please leave them in your room during those times.

12. Is smoking, alcohol, or psychedelics allowed?

All indoor spaces, including bedrooms and the dome, are non-smoking. However, the resort has designated smoking areas. Please consult the reception for information on the allowed smoking locations.

To support a clear and steady inner environment, we ask that you do not drink alcohol or use recreational drugs, plant medicines or psychedelics during the retreat (including the nights between sessions). The retreat is an invitation to meet experience as it is, without the influence of substances that alter perception or mood.

13. Can you cater for my dietary needs?

The retreat is fully catered with vegetarian meals, with vegan options available at most meals. Some common dietary requirements (e.g. dairy-free, gluten-free) can usually be accommodated if mentioned at booking. If you have complex needs, please contact us in advance to check what’s possible.

14. How accessible is the venue?

The venue is in the mountains and has uneven outdoor paths. If you have mobility challenges or other accessibility needs, please contact us before booking so we can clarify what is and isn’t feasible on site.

15. Will the retreat be recorded?

The satsang sessions will be recorded so that excerpts may be edited and possibly shared with a wider audience in a careful way over time.

By attending the retreat, you agree that your image and voice may appear in these recordings. Any use of the material is approached with discretion, sensitivity and respect.

If you prefer to sit off camera, please speak to the team when you arrive and we will do our best to seat you in an area that is less likely to be filmed.

16. Do you offer scholarships for this retreat?

At the moment, there are no formal scholarship places available for this in-person retreat, which has a very limited number of spaces.

If you’d deeply like to attend but the cost is out of reach, one option is to join one of the online retreats with Av Neryah, which are offered on a sliding scale and include supported tickets and even scholarship possibilities to make participation more accessible.

We do intend to make future in-person retreats more accessible for those experiencing financial hardship, and we hope to introduce dedicated scholarship options as this becomes possible over time.

17. How should I prepare for the retreat?

There is no special preparation required, but you may find it helpful to:

– Give yourself a little extra rest and space in the days before arriving.

– Reduce unnecessary stimulation (news, social media, busy schedules) where possible.

– Spend some time with material that resonates with this work (Av’s videos, books, or just simple quiet sitting).

– Reflect gently on your intention for being here, without turning it into a project or goal.

– If you’re coming from a very different time zone, you might gently start shifting your sleep a little towards UTC+1 in the days before traveling, so your body can arrive more softly.

On a practical level, please see the Travel tab for details about what to bring, the local weather, etc.

18. Can I practice or meditate between satsangs?

Yes. You’re very welcome to sit quietly or meditate between satsangs. You can do this in your own room, outside in nature, or in the satsang dome when it’s open outside the formal sessions.

19. Is this a silent retreat?

No, this is not a formal silent retreat. Outside the sessions you are free to speak and move normally. The invitation is simply to stay present and not use activity or conversation as a way to escape what is unfolding. Some participants may choose to remain in silence throughout, and that is always respected.

Regarding meals:

Breakfast – taken in silence
Lunch – taken in silence
Dinner – more flexible: you’re welcome to remain in silence or to share simple, conscious conversation if it feels right.

20. Mental health information

Is this retreat suitable for people with a history of mental health difficulties?

This retreat invites deep contemplation and inner exploration and can be quite intensive. It is not designed as therapy. The process of turning inward can sometimes stir up strong emotions, old patterns or previously unconscious material.

If you have a history of significant mental health difficulty, or are currently receiving psychological or psychiatric treatment, this retreat is not suitable for you.

During the retreat, you remain responsible for your own emotional and psychological wellbeing, including seeking professional support if needed. We cannot offer ongoing psychological support during the retreat, and participation requires a basic capacity to self-regulate and to take care of yourself in a group environment.

If it becomes clear that the retreat format is not appropriate or safe for someone, we may ask that they step back from the event, always with care for them and for the wider group.

If you are unsure whether this applies to you, you’re welcome to email us before booking.

      Community Information

About 6–8 weeks before the retreat starts, we’ll create a group chat exclusively for participants, to help with travel coordination and light connection before and after the retreat.

This space is completely optional and can be used to:

– Say hello and get to know each other a little

– Coordinate travel plans, share taxis or rental cars

– Organize shuttle transfers or shared rides to and from the venue

– Stay loosely connected during and after the retreat, if that feels supportive

You’re free to join or leave the group at any time.

The group is intended as a simple, practical way to stay in touch, not as a place for debate or ongoing processing. We invite everyone to post with the same spirit as the retreat itself: simple, kind and respectful.

If you prefer not to join any group chat, you’ll still receive all essential retreat information by email.
